Expansion of Park Row Nearing Completion

Construction is progressing quickly on the expansion of Park Row in West Houston.  In a public/private venture with Harris County Pct. 3, Wolff Companies and other landowners have contributed the right-of-way and a portion of the construction costs to extend Park Row through the Ten Oaks section of the new Medical Center - West, a 170-acre complex which is home to the Texas Children's Hospital West Campus and The Methodist Hospital West Campus.  The four-lane divided thoroughfare from State Highway 6 to the City of Katy will ensure improved mobility and access for West Houston employees, residents and visitors.

“As West Houston continues to grow at a significant rate, it is crucial that the area’s infrastructure accommodate the increased traffic flow, due in part to the new Medical Center – West,” said David W. Hightower, executive vice president of Wolff Companies. “As developers of Ten Oaks, as well as Park 10, located immediately east of the new Medical Center - West, we felt it was important to work collaboratively with Precinct 3 to complete the last segment of Park Row from State Highway 6 to Katy.”

In preparation for the extension of Park Row, Wolff Companies relocated more than 20 large live oak trees.  Initially planted along Barker-Cypress Road in the early 1980s, the live oaks will be replanted along Park Row and other locations in Wolff Companies’ Ten Oaks development once the roadway infrastructure project is completed.

Hightower added, “It would have been less expensive to just plant new, younger trees after the roadway project is completed.  However, Commissioner Steve Radack has a well documented record of working to improve the quality of the area by planting trees, and given the investment Harris County Pct. 3 is making in the roadway, we felt it important to save and relocate the trees as part of our overall contribution to the project.  At Wolff Companies, we believe strongly in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of each property we are involved in.”

Together Texas Children’s Hospital and The Methodist Hospital System are investing over $500,000,000 in the first their phases, which includes over 1,200,000 square feet of hospitals and medical buildings.  Remaining sites are planned to include uses that are complimentary and supportive to the medical complex, including medical offices, hospitality, commercial and institutional uses.
