David S. Wolff Receives Lifetime Achievement Award 

            “David Wolff has contributed tremendously to the make-up of Houston’s business community and his eye for real estate throughout the area has resulted in many successful employment areas,” said John Beddow, Publisher of Houston Business Journal. “His commitment to the Houston community and environment is clearly demonstrated through the many endeavors he has taken on over the years.”

               Wolff has worked with many Houston and national community-based initiatives as well. He currently serves as chairman of the board of the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO). His community service has also included stints as chairman of the Houston Parks Board, founding director of the Harris-Galveston Coastal Subsidence District, Vice President and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Houston Grand Opera and founder and Executive Committee member of the Houston Economic Development Council.

              Among his numerous professional achievements, Wolff founded the West Houston Association and served as its Chairman for six years. He also is or has been a member of the Real Estate Roundtable, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Real Estate Advisory Council of the Trust for Public Land and the Urban Land Institute.

            Wolff is passionate about both the natural and built environment.  His commitment is evident in developments such as Westway Park where he has dedicated a 3-acre urban arboretum in memory of his mother. Carolyn H. Wolff Park has over 85 Texas hardwood trees, many over 100 years old .  He has caused, either directly or through development in his many projects, the planting of well over 100,000 trees in Houston and surrounding areas.  He has most recently established a tree farm in Washington County in connection with Wolff Companies’ latest project, the 1,500-acre Gates Ranch, a secluded community of family farms. 

            He is a graduate of Amherst College with honors and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School where he has been an advisor to the faculty in the development of the study of entrepreneurship and was Chairman of the Capital Campaign in conjunction with his 35^th reunion. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and, subsequently, became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy.
